Photo-Fest
FIOLET
The exhibition is held on Sep.
17-27
at the “Krasnoye Znamya” factory
Bolshaya Raznochinnaya
str., 24
Open 11.00
a.m. – 6.00 p.m.
The
«Fiolet» exhibition situated in the former “Krasnoye Znamya” factory is a unique collection of art objects such as photos, videos,
installations, graphics which exist in the queer culture space.
Various works
– activism and “pure art”, the beautiful and the shocking, the unusual and
the ordinary - are brought together in one place. It gives an opportunity to look
at the queer from outside, through eyes of people who think of themselves as a
part of queer culture. The artists make a step out of the stereotypes of sex
and gender and invite the public to follow them.
The exhibition will show the works of both
little-known artists and already recognized ones, for example Gluyklya and Tsaplya, Lipa Engel, Yulya Nikonova.
Gegraphy: Russia (Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Perm’, Toliatty, Samara), Germany, Latvia, Spain

«Coming out of
the Closet», Lida Mikhailova,
Saint-Petersburg
|
|

|
The expression “to
come out of the closet” means to confess your homosexuality. There are many ways
to “come out of the closet”: consciously, with your head held up proudly,
keeping somebody’s company or by accident. Everyone has their own story. We suggest not only to look at others’
stories but to model your own story of coming out of the closet – the
one that might happen or may have happened already.

|
«A Different Look»,
the “Insight” social organization, the Ukraine
|
|

|
The photo exhibition is dedicated to
lesbians, bisexual women and transgender people. The artists break down the stereotypes
about lesbian, bisexual and transgender lifestyles and call to accept people
with a different sexual orientation and gender identity as a full part of the
society.

|
«A Girl and a
Girl», Tatyana Rakitina
|
|
This is a diploma
work of the photographer which was being shot during half a year. It tells
about relationships of a lesbian couple. It’s a try to understand why
things go this way and not otherwise. The idea of equality stands behind the visual daily routine
of these unusual girls.

Lipa Engel, Cologne – verse, photography
|
|

|
Lipa Engel is a photographer, a charismatic personality
boundless in her creativity. She sharply feels the rhythm and vibration of colours and lines.
There are no frames and stereotypes
and there is the creative space of the artist. Her works communicate with
guests, surround them, contaminate with their mood, and tell them secrets.
The whole world appears in new colours and
incarnations through the lenses of the camera.

Yulya Nikonova, Toliatty

|
«Models are actors who play the role
which corresponds with my state of mind. So it’s me in each photo, and even
if I decide to take pictures of a glass of water, it will always be my
self-portrait.
My photos are words. These “words” are
combined in stories which can tell even more than written stories. Words drawn
by light reflect my soul more fully…»
